Founded in 1997, EPL Construction Ltd (EPL) has established itself as a valued contractor to clients in the Building, Land Development, 
Government and Utilities Infrastructure sectors. Delivering a diverse range of civil construction solutions to clients throughout the 
Coromandel Peninsula and central North Island, our specialties include building site works, earthworks, concrete works, land development, drainage, pipe laying, roads, pump stations, retaining walls, footpaths, coastal protection and marine work.

EPL has a strong reputation for being a resourceful and responsive civil engineering contractor, that clients can rely on to deliver. Our ability 
to self-perform the majority of the scope enables us to optimise project cost, quality and schedule to ensure we deliver the best possible 
outcomes for our clients. Over the last five years, we have significantly diversified our business and increased our capability and capacity inline with client needs. With significant in-house capability, a large inventory of owned plant and equipment and a strong management team, 
EPL has the resources and capability to ensure project success and quality outcomes.

EPL operates from a modern well-equipped office and depot facility located at 316 Aicken Road, Whangamata. Our fleet of well-maintained plant and equipment allows us to respond to and deliver a wider variety of complex and technically challenging projects. The fleet is regularly maintained and consistently updated to ensure that the plant and equipment is of sound, safe and reliable condition. All plant and equipment 
is fully owned by EPL and free of encumbrance.

We have reliable associations with local contractors including Barry Blake Construction, Brownmores, HEB, Hamish Stewart Construction to name a few, enabling us to provide efficient correlation on extensive projects.

EPL Construction are certified members of  Civil Contractors New Zealand and approved contractors with ISNNetworld and SheHealth & Safety.

Bruce Connell
Managing Director

Sheridan Fathers
BE Civil (Hons). CPEng

Bruce is a certified plumber and drainlayer and he has more than 36 years of experience in the civil construction industry working through-out New Zealand and Australia. Bruce’s relevant project experience includes drain-laying, building site works, pile driving, bulk earthworks, road construction, tunneling, hard rock mining and the construction of water, sewer and stormwater pipe systems, pump stations, outfalls, intakes, retention basins, and pollutant traps. When Bruce isn't hard at work he enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing and cooking.

Sheridan has more than 15 years' experience in the civil construction industry both here in New Zealand and Australia.

Sheridan is a member of the Engineering New Zealand Waikato Branch Committee.

Sheridan is a motivated construction manager/engineer highly effective at finding the best methods possible to complete exceptional construction projects. Being a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) she has a strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and concepts. She is dedicated to ensuring health and safety, quality and environmental requirements are being implemented. When Sheridan isn't at work she is kept busy with her young family and enjoys the outdoors and socialising with friends.

Alan Roberts
Site Representative

Alan is a certified plumber and drainlayer, he has more than 36 years of experience in the civil construction industry and has been with the company since its foundation. He is responsible for day to day construction supervision and is the company’s senior on-site representative and Health & Safety Officer. Some major projects that Alan has worked on in the capacity of Site Representative include the Pauanui Boat Ramp at Royal Billy Point, Kotuku Enterprises- 33 lot subdivision and the Pinnacles Hut Wastewater and Water Supply Upgrade.

Alan enjoys to keep fit and spend time with his family when he is not hard at work.

Callum Connell
Site Representative

Callum has been brought up at EPL Construction from a very young age driving the machinery.  Callum has a great understanding of the construction industry and engineering. Callum is responsible for day to day construction supervision and is a senior on-site representative.

Recently Callum has been in charge of the BESS project and the new boat ramp at Royal Billy Point in Pauanui.

To relax Callum spends time in or on the ocean, fishing and free-diving. He also runs his own beekeeping business in his spare time.

Michelle Bathurst
Office Manager

Michelle has recently joined our team in 2019. Previously Michelle has managed her own businesses having been self employed for  over 25  years.

Michelle is highly efficient in running the office, is dedicated to maintaining and improving on the high standards the company holds.

Michelle is currently completing a diploma in bookkeeping doubled with a Business Administration Certificate.

When Michelle is not working or studying, she relaxes with her family and enjoys the outdoors.

Paul Hemopo
Workshop Engineer/mechanic

Paul has been with EPL since 2010.

Paul is highly skilled and experienced in a vast array of the company operations.

Paul manages the maintenance of our vehicle fleet, plant and machinery. Paul liaises with suppliers and colleagues to manage planning his company roles including engineering and fabrication, construction work and operating large machinery.

In his spare time you will often find Paul working on his own vehicles and projects at home.

The Team ...... 

Here at EPL we have an efficient and skilled team of operators. On  our team we have specialists in  the three waters, drinking, waste and storm water services.

We as a team work together to continue to up-skill ourselves and have a number of employees working towards NZQA Level 4 and also seeking Civil Trades certifications.

All of our team members hold current  certificates in some or all of the following;

Traffic Management New Zealand, Supervisors Traffic Management New Zealand, First Aid, Construct Safe, Site safe, PE Welding, Confined Space and Gas Detection.  Bruce and Alan are also certifying drain layers registered with the Gas fitters, Plumbers and Drain layers Board.
